Today’s auction ‘Fine Printed Books Including Modern Firsts and Miniature Books’ at Christie’s South Kensington broke the auction record for the amount paid for any Harry Potter book in hp.jpgthe world.

An exceptionally rare fine copy of the scarce first issue of the first Bloomsbury (July) 1997 edition of .J.K. Rowling’s) Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone reached an incredible £19,700 ($40,326 €28,250), having been estimated to get just £8,000-12,000.


Head of Sale, Crispin Jackson, said “The exceptional price achieved at Christie's for the first edition of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone saw a world auction record achieved for the book that started the Harry Potter phenomenon.”
