An 1962 comic book, which introduces Spider-Man to the world, set an auction record when it sold for $227,000 online.

The comic, Amazing Fantasy #15, achieved the highest auction price to date, for a comic book from the 1960s. The auction, held by ComicLink, closed on October 19.

The issue features the artwork of Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko and has a 9.4 or near-mint condition grade (CGC), making it a Holy Grail for many collectors. Following Spider-Man’s debut in Amazing Fantasy #15, the character was given his own comic book title, The Amazing Spider-Man, in March 1963.

This was the second comic book sale to outstrip the $200,000 line. In June another copy of Amazing Fantasy #15, also rated 9.4 by CGC (Certified Guaranty Company) sold for $200,000. “The two examples are among the seven best examples known of this title.”
