"Liber Chronicarum" by Hartmann Schedel, hand-coloured by Johannes Cincinnius, fetched the top price of €120,000 (€40,000 over the estimate) at Ketterer Kunst's auction from the 19th – 20th May.
The overall proceeds from the two-day auction, held in Hamburg, amounted to an astonishing €1,200,000 (£962,000). This included the sale of a wide variety of items, ranging between rare books, manuscripts, autographs and decorative prints.
Other items that toppled their estimates include the Latin Book of Hours on Vellum, Paris 1498, selling for €35,000 (€15,000 over the estimate) and the Literary Magazine PAN, that sold for €32,000 (€8,000 over the estimate).
Robert Ketterer, auctioneer and owner of Ketterer Kunst, commented afterwards that he was "delighted that [the] evening auction concept has become so well established and is appreciated by both clients of long standing and newcomers interested in the field."
